SexLikeReal BYOJ: Build Your Own Journey with VR Porn

Published on:

SexLikeReal has just put a video editor inside its giant library of VR porn.

The feature is called Build Your Own Journey, or BYOJ.

And it looks pretty cool. You take a section of one VR scene, connect it to another, and give the viewer a button that decides where to jump next.

So…choose your own adventure… in a VR headset?

SLR’s rebuilt editor now supports trimmed clips, branching choices and loops, with a choice of text, buttons and images that can be laid over the footage. If you’re the type who likes to ‘give back’ to the community, you can share your creation with other SLR users.

Or if you’re the type of user to obsessively bookmark the best moments in a clip, you can compile your very own highlights reel and make it accessible to other horndogs.

The challenge is that you’ll have to learn the editor first. Some of the users who liked the old BYOJ have had quite a lot to say about this one.

BYOJ Has Been Around For A While

BYOJ Porn is back

Long-time users of SexLikeReal will be aware that BYOJ is not exactly a ‘new’ feature, even if the homepage suggests so.

SLR’s forum had a BYOJ tutorial in December 2022, and various release notes have covered it. Most users will only be discovering it recently having followed this shortcut on the SLR homepage:

BYOJ videos

In February 2026, a SLR rep confirmed the old version of BYOJ was gone and a replacement was underway. BYOJ 2.0, if you will.

The rebuilt editor launched at the end of July, initially as a closed beta.

The company then went public with a full relaunch, which now appears to be getting traction on their forums with a slew of favourites posted and BYOJs shared.

What Is The Appeal of BYOJ VR Porn?

If it sounds like a lot of bother to hack your way through a selection of VR scenes… well… yes.

Fair enough. There’s a limit to how much admin anyone wants to do before slipping on the headset and getting down to fap business.

The appeal is easier to understand if you keep going back to the same scenes.

So imagine you could spend a little time arranging the bits you actually want to watch, then return to those money shots without having to skip through the filler. All of this is in the context of a viewing experience that isn’t exactly ideal for jumping forwards/backwards between scenes.

Less fumbling around in a VR headset?

That’s always a good thing.

And you don’t have to be the poor bastard who actually put the work in.

If another SLR user has put together something that suits your tastes… you can try their shared journey and see how it stacks up the studio versions of the original material.

No doubt, fan-voted Reddit-style highlights would be a nice win for the SLR forum community. And that’s basically what their BYOJ section is today.

The ‘choose your own adventure’ comparison is not quite an exact match, though.

If you’ve read our DezyRed review, you’ll know that studio-made interactive porn has already entered the VR arena. In these cases, the production team has already filmed all of the possible outcomes. You pick a route through them.

With BYOJ, the user building the journey has to create those routes from existing library footage only. So while you can connect moments from different scenes, or give the viewer a choice of where to go next… you can’t go back to the original cast and ask them to shoot something that doesn’t already exist in the tape.

(Maybe AI will get us there in future?! SLR specifically notes ‘AI Journey generation as an upcoming feature… 👀)

Ultimately, you’re working with material the studios have already shot, so it’s more Rejig Your Porn Journey than Build Your Own Journey.

That isn’t going to stop SLR from peddling the hype, though.

After all, a scene you’ve watched before gets another outing, and the collection you’ve spent time arranging could become another reason to keep your subscription – instead of flipping to subscription rivals like POVR or VRPorn.com.

Building the journey does involve mastering that editor, however.

So how much faff are we talking about?

How Has The Editor Been Received So Far?

It’s still very much early days.

SLR’s beta feedback is revealing, however, given that it comes from ‘power users’ who were already doing this for fun.

One forum user, Picouser, said they had made more than 250 journeys with the old system. Their biggest critique of the new version was having to think in jumps and target times instead of straightforward clip beginnings and endings. While he appreciated the faster jumps within the same source video, he noted the transitions between different videos could still be frustratingly slow.

Another user, fxberlin, was more comfortable with the interface, likely thanks to experience with other video editors like DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut. Still, he wanted a simpler default for connecting clips and a way to save unfinished projects to avoid untimely bugs and errors.

SLR has been responding in a way that gives us confidence they see this market as more than just a passing fad.

Product manager Max proposed a series of fixes and the editor appears to be improving on an almost weekly basis – so, promising signs that the early kinks will be ironed out.

If you’re curious about the BYOJ experience, we’d definitely start with somebody else’s journey.

And while we think it’s unlikely that many subscribers will be rushing to become hobbyist video editors, a relatively small group of capable curators is all it would take to make this system a worthwhile addition to SLR.

An Evening with Melody Marks‘ sits as the most liked BYOJ creation on the site today.

There are 74 Build Your Own Journey creations in total; many of them submitted by the same user (SLR’s own kingwizard).

SLR’s longer-term ambitions include gaze-based choices, conditional behaviour and watching together.

There’s also talk of a game engine – “parameters, conditions, custom controllers and logic to build truly gamified, interactive experiences” – as well as the “AI journey generation” we hinted at.

Those smart additions could certainly change what a journey feels like.

For now, we’d judge BYOJ by a less ambitious test: can you make a journey worth returning to, and still play it six months later?

The early response has been positive.

Let’s see how quickly their library grows over the coming months!
